On 7 December, 1941, Japanese bombers flew towards the U.S. naval base of Pearl Harbor. Among the main targets for the Japanese fleet heading towards Pearl Harbor were the U.S. battleships stationed there. More than anything else, they bore the brunt of the Japanese bombs as the U.S. aircraft carriers that would have also been targeted were not present on the day. Eight battleships were present, and most were hit during the airstrike.
