During a 2007 workplace issues study, the international non-profit organization Six Seconds found that 89 percent of professionals surveyed in a group of 135 participants believed that Emotional Intelligence was critical to organizational performance and success. They also believed that 76 percent of workplace issues that resulted in lower success rates were people and relational in nature. A 2012 follow-up study involving a much larger group -- 775 business professionals -- revealed that the number of professionals who recognized people and relational issues were a huge workplace problem was still over 50 percent of the total group size (66 percent). More than half of the respondents (61.7 percent) believed that these issues existed because leaders were not effective at driving change.
