Corporate Shared Services (SS) is an operating model that enables function-specific resources (i.e., HR, IT, Finance, etc.) to be leveraged across an entire organization, resulting in lower costs with agreed-upon customer-service levels. The operating model has been around for decades and is utilized by both the private and public sectors. Since the 2008/2009 recession, demands for greater efficiency and increased regulatory scrutiny have driven the model to the next stage in SS maturity... Global Business Services (GBS). So, what is GBS? This article is the first in a series of 3 articles explaining GBS and its potential value to corporations.
