As an occasional viewer of horror films about zombies, I ponder why scary movies are so appealing to peaceful individuals like me as well as others. I wouldn't recommend these movies to children under the age of 18, but they do provide relaxation for adults who would like to escape their everyday concerns while not confusing a movie with reality. * My first interest in zombie films date back to when I watched black-and-white classic movies about Count Dracula and Frankenstein, not to mention reading some books by Bram Stoker and Mary Shelley. Back then, horror films and books were not as graphic as they are today, and they were entertaining enough even with fewer grisly details. Nowadays, ghastly monsters, with what seem to be real bodies, tear both movie viewers and book readers away from the mundane problems they often they face. Viewers often admire the actors who pretend to flee from uncontrollable zombies and who help their fellow-actors flee the same. At the end of the day, the actors go home and are likely to aspire to act in other popular films that are quite different from the "zombie" genre.
